What does "SoHo" stand for?

The name "SoHo" stands for South of Houston Street (pronounced HOW-stun in New York City) and refers to the area in Lower Manhattan between West Houston Street to the north and Canal Street at the south, bordered by 6th Avenue and Lafayette Street. Fun fact: Houston Street is pronounced differently from the city in Texas because it's named for William Houstoun, whose name was misspelled; original maps of NYC from the 1800s have a "Houstoun Street."

What else is there to do in SoHo?

Although it's a world-renowned destination for high-end shopping and boutiques, SoHo is also home to a number of art galleries and cultural destinations, including the New Museum, the Tenement Museum, the New York City Fire Museum, and The Museum of Interesting Things, a unique traveling exhibit with rotating fascinations.
